      <image:title>About - My Story My journey into health began gradually many years ago but truly solidified when I became pregnant with my son. I was surprised to learn that nutritional counseling was not a standard part of prenatal care outside the realm of taking a basic prenatal multivitamin. Any “common” pregnancy symptom is either shrugged off as normal or masked with an over-the-counter “bandaid” usually filled with toxins and chemicals. I was more interested in understanding what the messages were that my body was sending and how to support my body, and baby, holistically. The more women I connected with, the more I learned how little support and education are given to new moms that can truly make a difference; especially with nutrient status, mindset, proper breastfeeding support and how this can all can impact our experience, healing and recovery. I realized that our current healthcare system does not prepare, educate or prioritize the importance of understanding our health status and addressing root causes prior to conception at all. The current model is more of a “good luck and come back in a year if you still can’t get pregnant” or there’s another problem.</image:title>

More women are experiencing difficult symptoms or complications in pregnancy and postpartum. In our culture, we are conditioned to wait until there’s a problem to address our health. Why? What if there was a more effective way? Pregnancy and postpartum are beautiful and sacred times, but they are also taxing on a woman’s body. It is becoming more common for symptoms to “pop up” or existing conditions to worsen during these stages, especially with each subsequent pregnancy. The good news is: this does not need to be the case. Preparing our body for a baby is the most important and significant thing we can do, and yet it is the missing piece in healthcare today. By understanding what our health status is prior to conception, we can address “root causes” (such as deficiencies, imbalances, toxicity, infections, and stress) causing dysfunction within the body leading to challenges conceiving, loss or poor health outcomes. Intentionally supporting our mind and body with a nutrient-dense diet, targeted supplementation and holistic care not only sets us up for success in terms of boosting fertility, the amount/severity of symptoms we experience and our health during + after, but also for our babies who ultimately inherit our toxicity levels and gut microbiome (where +70% of our immune system resides).
